The story of the recent restoration of the Mill in Talgarth and the way it helped to revitalise the area is both incredible and awe inspiring. A few people with a vision can produce an amazing transformation in real life.
After the hospital closed a lot of people in the area lost their jobs and people were forced to look outside of Talgarth for employment.
The original wheel on the inside of the mill was destroyed to avoid a tax on working mills. When the residents opened the mill up they found hardly anything of the original wheel that was usuable following the years of decay.
The mill was rebuilt in 2011 following a campaign by local residents to raise funds. The initial funding was found at first from the Big Lottery fund. The project was put forward to the BBC as part of the Village SOS series and in total nearly £800,000 was raised to fund the rebuild.
